Environment Day activities to begin tomorrow

Environment Ministry has decided to conduct some activities for the World Environment Day on 5 June.

The Ministry said that the Environment Day Activities would be starting tomorrow since this year’s World Environment Day is very close to the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

Talking to the press about the World Environment Day festivities in the Maldives this year, the Permanent Secretary at the Environment Ministry, Ajwad Mustafa said that a number of activities have been planned.

And so the most notable is the Environment Festival at Rasfannu on Friday and Saturday.

The festival that would begin at 4 p.m. on Friday would feature stalls to give information on the environment along with the award ceremony of the photo competition aimed for school children.

Environment Ministry said that the drawing depicting the state of the environment would be printed on tiles and installed on the wall of Hiriya School.

An art competition by the “Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies” project led by the United Nations Environment Program and the Environment Ministry is also set to begin tomorrow.

A tree planting program is also set to be held at every island with collaboration from the Civil Service Commission, Local Government Authority (LGA) with the Ministry.
