Saudi Arabian government has donated 50 tons of dates to Maldives as countdown begins for the holy month of Ramadan.
The dates were accepted on behalf of Maldivian government by Minister of Finance Abdulla
Jihad in a ceremony held at Saudi Embassy in Maldives on Thursday afternoon.
Senior officials of Saudi Ministry of Finance arrived in Maldives to participate in the ceremony.
Speaking during the ceremony, Jihad said that the 50 tons of date represented the age-old friendship that existed between the two countries. And noted that dates were the best food a Muslim can eat during Ramadan.
“Ramadan is the month of worship. And breaking the fast with a date is a Sunnah,” said Jihad.
It has been some years since Saudi Arabian government started donating dates to Maldives on occasion of Ramadan.
They donated 50 tons of dates in 2015 as well.
