MPL employee arrested for embezzling MVR 300k

Police have arrested an employee of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) for allegedly embezzling MVR 300,000 from one of its subsidiary companies - Southern Transport Link – located in Addu.

Police started their investigation after a large amount of money went missing from the office, on April 19

The office’s Admin and Finance Manager, Abdulla Rasheed, 35, was arrested under court order last Sunday.

Police said that Abdulla Rasheed is suspected of embezzling over MVR 300,000 from the office.

He has been remanded to police custody for 10 days, during which time he will be kept in a place arranged by Ministry of Home Affairs.
