Van Oord starts land reclamation project in Thinadhoo

Execution phase of G. Dh. Thinadhoo land reclamation project was inaugurated on Wednesday by Minister of Finance, Abdulla Jihdad.

Speaking to press on Tuesday, Minister of Housing Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that 55 hectors of land would be reclaimed as part of the project.

According to Ministry of Housing, the work will be complete within the next 20 days.

Muizzu tweeted on Wednesday, announcing the inauguration of execution phase of Thinadhoo land reclamation project.

The project is being undertaken by Dutch company – Van Oord Dredging and Marine Construction.

The company has successfully reclaimed 50 hectors of land in S. Feydhoo within 14 days; and has also been hired to reclaim land in K. Himmafushi.

Land reclamation in Thinadhoo, Feydhoo and Himmafushi was tasked to the company for MVR 603 million.
