Allied Insurance Company of Maldives has fired one of their employees and filed complaint with police after it came to light that the employee conned a client and embezzled the money.
Deputy Manager of Allied Insurance, Nazim Habeeb spoke to “Sun” on Tuesday and said that the issue came to light due to a complaint made by a client.
He said the company summoned the client who made the complaint and the employee and questioned both, and carried out an internal investigation into the issue.
The employee who was fired is Abdul Basith Thaufeeq – who had worked with the company for four years.
The internal investigation shows that Basith had used the company’s letterhead to forge one of their hull insurance policies.
Nazim said that Basith had confessed to the crime when he was questioned. And that he was immediately fired on the spot, and the issue brought to the attention of police.
“He confessed. He told us how he did it. He was terminated from his post on the spot,” said Nazim.
Nazim said that the premium of the forged hull policy was MVR 128,000. And that they did not think he had embezzled more than that.
He said that they had not noticed any other issues during their internal investigation.
He assured clients that Allied insurance policies were safe and secure – with minimum chances it can be forged.
“We noticed through our internal investigation that the public awareness was low regarding insurance policies,” said Nazim.
