Maldives take part in the Health Assembly in Geneva

World Health Organization (WHO)’s annual World Health Assembly 2016 has begun in Geneva, Switzerland.

The 69th session of the World Health Assembly would be held from today to Saturday.

The Maldivian delegation taking part in the assembly includes the Health Minister, Iruthisham Adam and the Deputy Permanent Representative at the Maldivian Mission in Geneva, Jeffry Salim Waheed along with other high ranking officials of the Health Ministry.

Countries are set to address the priority areas for global health, ranging from management to nutrition at the assembly. Health Minister Iruthisham is set to talk today.

The Maldivian delegation is set to meet with the Health Ministers and officials from India, Nepal, Italy, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus and Cuba to discuss potential aid to develop the health sector in the Maldives.

And so discussions would be held on staff training, thalassemia control, finding doctors and specialists along with medical supplies and equipment.

World Health Assembly is the world's highest health policy setting body and is composed of health ministers from member states. A total of 28 resolutions and decisions would be presented at the assembly this year.
