Police clear MDP station in Eydhafushi

Police started clearing out “Fini Ashi”, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) station in B. Eydhafushi, on Wednesday.

Maldives Police Serves said that they are providing their assistance upon request of authorities, in clearing out political party stations build on state property without permission from island councils.

Ministry of Home Affairs ordered Eydhafushi Council to seize “Fini Ashi” stating that it was built in violation of land ownership laws and without proper permission from Eydhafushi Council by MDP to run political activities.

Eydhafushi Council made the announcement on Sunday, giving until end of Tuesday for party members to clear out the station of their belongings.

Police have so far cleared out state land in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo and H. A. Dhiddhoo used to unlawfully build stations of political parties – both MDP and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) stations.
