The Maldives Police Services has today arrested the missing accomplice of two officers of the Maldives National Defence Forces (MNDF) who were caught day before yesterday looting a number of Bangladeshi expatriates in their residence.
A Police Media Official said that a person who was suspected of being one of the three robbers who entered a place where foreign workers lived and looted them was arrested, and that the matter was being investigated. However the Police declined to confirm the rumors that the person arrested today was also an MNDF officer.
“We are questioning him and we are looking into the matter, and hence we cannot provide any further details”, said the Police Media Official.
In a Press Release issued yesterday, MNDF said that Lance Corporal Ali Ibrahim, 26, Aaraamuge, Lh. Hinnavaru and Private Hussain Mahir,23, Finifenmaage, L. Mundoo were the two officers caught looting foreign workers. According to the Press Release, the incident occurred day before yesterday, during the evening in a house located at Fareedhee Magu. MNDF had vowed severe reprehension for those officers.
According to the workers living in the looted quarters, the two officers who were caught day before yesterday and an additional unidentified person had entered their residence a number of times during the Ramadan and robbed them of money amounting to MRF 30,000.
