Maldivian dies in Syria after prison sentence

A Maldivian who could not leave the country due to clerical issues after serving ten years in a Syrian prison has died today.

Foreign Ministry said that the Maldivian who died was a man named Ibrahim Abdul-Rahman and did not give any further details on the person. And it is not confirmed as to why he was sentenced to prison in Syria.

The Foreign Ministry said that the man died due to a health issue.

The Ministry said that the news of his death has been shared with his family and the ministry is working to make his funeral arrangements.

Foreign Ministry said that they have been checking up on him since the day he started serving his sentence and has been informing his family.
