Ferry services between Malé to Hulhumalé and Malé and Villi-malé has been cancelled due to rough seas and strong winds.
An official from the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) told Sun Media that the ferry services were cancelled after it was deemed unsafe in the current weather. The ferry service between Malé and Hulhumalé was cancelled at 5:30 p.m. while the Malé to Villi-malé ferry service came to halt at 5:45 p.m.
The MTCC official said that the services would resume when the weather improves.
MTCC said that it is not safe to travel between Malé and Villi-malé but they are allowing compulsory trips.
Since the winds are from south-west, the journey from Malé City to Villi-malé is against the wind and it is dangerous to travel against the wind with a large number of passengers.
With the ferry service cancelled, the terminals have become crowded and people waiting for the service to resume.
