Boat sinks after colliding with Vashafaru reef

A boat on a trip from Male’ to H. A. Vashafaru has sunk after colliding with its reef while attempting to near the island through the channel cut through reef.

Police released a statement on Tuesday in which they said that the incident occurred at dawn.

And that the people on board the boat had been immediately rescued and taken to safety in Vashafaru.

The boat that sank is Arafaa Express from Vashafaru. Police and locals are trying to haul the boat up and onto the island.

Police said that they have not received reports of injuries to anyone in the incident. And that the boat sank with all the cargo it had onboard.

However, police and locals have salvaged some cargo swept away in the current.
