Import percentage raised by 20 with the tools for bridge project

The import percentage to the Maldives in April has been risen by 20 percent with the imports made for the ongoing bridge project.

Statistics from the Customs show that goods worth of MVR 3.1 billion were imported last April. Last year, it was MVR 2.6 billion.

Customs said that the import was high last month because large portion of the price of military helicopter and parts that were brought in and due to the construction materials imported for the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge being built between Malé and Hulhulé.

Reports show that the highest imports were from the countroes that the helicopter and the construction materials are being brought in, India and China. While the CIF of the goods imported from India is at MVR 552.6 million, the goods from China are at MVR 466.2 million.

The third-highest import last month were from Singapore with MVR 385.5 million worth of imports.

The exports from the Maldives in the last two months have dropped by 2 percent. While goods worth of MVR 397.6 million were exported in April 2015, the amount has dropped to MVR 388.6 this year.

The reports from customs show an 11 percent increase in Customs income from duties and other fees last April compared to the year before. While MVR 209.7 million has been made in profit to the state last month, the amount was in MVR 188.7 million last year.
