Ex-secretary of former Vice President and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, Aminath Maureen and 12 others have been named as witnesses in defense of Adeeb who is accused of boarding presidential speedboat “Finifenma” to plant an IED on it.
Adeeb has been charged with abuse of power, as well as a number of other charges.

elevision presenter best known for hosting Maldivian Idol, Maureen’s name was submitted by Adeeb to prove three things.
They are:
• That Adeeb asked Maureen to arrange a speedboat for his trip to Aarah on September 27, 2015.
• That Adeeb did not ask Maureen to arrange any specific speedboat for the trip.
• That official procedure was followed in arranging a speedboat for his trip.
Adeeb’s former bodyguard – Hassan Zikar’s name was submitted to strengthen Maureen’s testimony, MNDF warrant officer – Ahmed Khaleel’s name was submitted to strengthen Zikar’s testimony, and MNDF sergeant first class – Ismail Muaz’s name was submitted to strengthen Khaleel’s testimony.
A person called Hoodh has also been named as a witness for defense.
Adeeb’s lawyer, Moosa Siraj said that they had not been able to clarify Hoodh’s full name, but that his name was submitted as a witness to explain normal procedure for arranging speedboats for state officials.
Three people’s names were submitted as witnesses to prove that Adeeb travelled to Aarah on “Finifenma” in accordance with set rules, that the crew onboard the speedboat did not leave the boat until it reached Male’,
The three witnesses are:
• Mahmood Abdul Sattar – Redhouse, M. Dhiggaru
• Mohamed Suzail – Mathiraihmaage, H. A. Baarah
• Abu Bakr Muaz – Zamaaneeaakula, L. Maavah
Two additional witnesses were named to prove he did not get onboard the boat while it was docked at Aarah Jetty, other than to board it to go to Male’.
They are:
• MNDF sergeant Moosa Khaleel
• MNDF staff sergeant Hassan Sabah
Names of three people were submitted to prove that security clearance was done before President Abdulla Yameen boarded “Finifenma” on September 28, 2015.
They are:
• MNDF sergeant Siyaadh Abdul Waahid
• MNDF corporal Nabeel
• MNDF corporal Jaadhulla Ahmed
Looking at the prosecution side, state prosecutors submitted names of six individuals to prove their case against Adeeb – one of whom will remain anonymous.
MNDF warrant officer Ahmed Khaleel’s name was submitted to prove that the order came on Adeeb’s behalf to arrange “Finifenma” for his trip to Aarah on September 27, 2015, and that
“Finifenma” had not been arranged for any such trip he made prior to that.
MNDF sergeant first class – Ismail Muaz’s name has been submitted to strengthen Khaleel’s testimony.
Three MNDF officers have been named to prove that Adeeb went to Aarah on “Finifenma” and returned back to Male’ on “Finifenma”.
They are:
• MNDF sergeant Moosa Khaleel
• MNDF SPG crew-member Mohamed Suzail
• MNDF SPG crew-member Abu Bakr Muaz
Criminal Court said that testimony of some of the state witnesses would be heard on May 31.
