Sun TV’s Zakibe chosen for Saudi government hajj trip

Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) has announced that Head of News and Current Affairs of Sun TV, Ibrahim Zaki has been chosen as Maldivian broadcaster who will be covering this year’s hajj pilgrimage for radio and television channels, in an opportunity provided by Saudi Arabian government.

The announcement was made in a press statement released by MBC on Sunday.

MBC said that 11 television channels participated in the lucky draw held on May 12, and that Sun TV, MV TV and Al-Kaun won the lucky draw and given the opportunity to send in names for the trip.

Zaki’s name was sent by Sun TV, and he came out top.

The announcement that Zaki had been selected was made by MBC on Sunday.

Saudi government has stipulated that the broadcaster needed to be senior male individual who worked in media who was below 55 years of age, and had never gone on hajj pilgrimage before.

MBC officials met with Zaki on Sunday and congratulated him on being chosen for the opportunity.

According to the press statement, President of MBC, Mohamed Shaheeb said that it was one more win for the commission in their efforts to provide opportunities for individuals working in broadcasting field to perform hajj pilgrimage. And noted that this was the second such opportunity provided to people working in the field.
