Navaz: In some cases, it is difficult to share Intel with judges

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Navaz has said that in some cases, it is difficult to share intelligence information with the judges.

Speaking at the Judge’s Forum in the session with Police Commissioner, Ahmed Areef and Deputy Police Commissioner, Ahmed Saudhee, Assistant Commissioner Navaz said that there are challenging factors when sharing intelligence information with judges. But it is not with the intention of not sharing the information with a magistrate or any other person of the court.

Magistrates raised concerns at the forum saying that no additional information is given when requesting remand extensions by stating that it based on intelligence reports and requested to share information as much as they can.

Commissioner Ahmed Areef said that there are some challenges to the Police in taking people to and from the court. The Commissioner noted that one of those is budget issues and said that it is not a topic that can be discussed at a forum like this.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Saeed also spoke at the forum saying that improvements would be made in the future based on the concerns of the judges. He said that magistrates are “connected” to the Police in their work.

At the Judge’s Forum 2016, the judges met with the Attorney General and the Prosecutor General aside from the Police.
