Government inaugurates three development projects in Kulhuduffushi

Three projects planned by the government for development of H. Dh. Kulhuduffushi have been inaugurated today.

One of the projects inaugurated today was that of construction of 125 new houses in Kulhuduffushi, under the special program of the government to build 10,000 housing units in various islands of the country. The other project was that of the State Trading Organization commencing to distribute agricultural produce of Maldivian farmers. The third project was that of starting cargo-ferry services for Kulhuduffushi.

125 housing units to be built in Kulhuduffushi would be constructed by Housing Development Corporation and Noomadi Investment. Speaking in today’s ceremony, Mohamed Aslam, Minister of Housing and Environment, said that 40 of those units would be allocated for applicants from Kulhuduffushi, while the remaining 85 would be available to any Maldivian citizen. The Minister also said that for the units, applicants should pay MRF 30,000 as down payment, and MRF 4,500 per month for twenty years.

About marketing the produce of farmers in Kulhuduffushi, Managing Director Shahid Ali of State Trading Organization said that they would be sold under the brand name “Isle Fresh”, and that the produce would be marketed not only to Malé and other inhabited islands of the Maldives but also to resorts all over the country. He said that this new business would be challenging, although he was positive about its success.
