Government blocks Addu Live, says it's being run illegally

Home Ministry has blocked Addu Live online news website, saying that it is being run illegally.

Spokesperson for Home Ministry, Hinna Khalid spoke to “Sun” on Wednesday, and said that the website was unregistered and being run illegally.

“The minister took the decision because it’s being run illegally, unregistered,” said Hinna.

When asked whether the numerous blogs and small news websites being run un-registered was also an issue, Hinna said that news websites needed to be registered.

Addu Live, which started off dedicated to publishing local news from Addu, expanded and became a website which published different articles regarding the political scene of the country.

Addu Live news website has been running since 2013.
