Employee shown the knife, robbed of over MVR 500,000

A gang of robbers in two motorcycles with knives robbed an employee of High Investment on his way to deposit over MVR 500,000 in cash to the bank, Sunday morning.

Hassan, from High Investment, spoke to “Sun” and said that the employee was mugged while on his way to deposit the money in a backpack to Bank of Maldives – Majeedhee Magu Branch.

“He goes to the bank every day to deposit our sales money. It’s more likely he was followed,” said Hassan.

The High Investment employee who was mugged said that the backpack he carried contained MVR 400,000 and USD 5,000.

And that the mugging took place when he set off to deposit the money in the bank as per usual.

“At one point, I heard a motorcycle racing behind me so I turned back to look. When I looked back forward, two people in a motorcycle were blocking my way. Then they came and pressed a knife to the back of my neck. And snatched the backpack,” said the employee.

He said that he had managed to grab one of the robbers in a motorcycle when they attempted to get away after snatching the backpack, but that let go of the man when he waved a knife at his face.
