Ex-MP Nazim, too, ordered to return to country within 48 hours

Convicted former People’s Majlis representative for Dhiggaru, Ahmed Nazim, too, has been ordered to return back to country within 48 hours by Maldives Correctional Service.

Nazim is currently abroad after being authorized to travel out of the country for medical treatment.

MCS Information Officer, Hassan Ali told “Sun” on Monday that he was ordered to return back to the country as the number of days authorized for him to stay out of the country – which has been extended a couple of times - is up.

Rumors have spread that Nazim has now traveled to UK. But no government authority has made any comment giving any credibility to the rumors.

Immigration said that Nazim was only given a travel document, not a passport or any other paper.

Nazim’s lawyer, Fareesha Abdulla sent a letter to MCS, in which she said that her client would not return back to Maldives before concluding his medical treatment.

She said in the letter that Nazim’s health had disintegrated due to poor quality of medical care provided to him in prison, as a result of which he had to be admitted at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male’ for over a month before being allowed to travel abroad for treatment.

She said that MCS ordering him to come back before his treatment was over despite the seriousness of his medical condition showed how cruelly they were treating him.

Nazim, who also served as Deputy Speaker of Majlis, was given life sentence for graft.

Meanwhile, MCS has also ordered convicted former Defense Minister Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim – who too, was authorized to travel abroad for medical treatment – to return back to the country within 48 hours.

His lawyer, Husnu Suood has said that he will comply with the order and return back within the time frame given.
