Maldives Correctional Service has made the decision not to extend number of days authorized for convicted former Defense Minister Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim to receive treatment abroad, and has ordered him to come back to the country within 48 hours.
MCS Information Officer has confirmed the decision to “Sun”, but did not give a reason for the decision.
Nazim’s lawyer Husnu Suood has said that Nazim would comply with orders of authorities and return back to Maldives within the time period given.
MCS had ordered Nazim to return back on April 1 as well.
He is currently in Singapore.
Nazim was sent to prison after a pistol was found in his apartment during a police raid, while he was serving as Defense Minister.
Nazim has maintained that the pistol had been planted there in an attempt to frame him, but lost in appeal when High Court ruled to uphold original ruling in the case by Criminal Court.
He has said he will press the issue with Supreme Court.
