Fire at Ihavandhoo waste desposal spreads, no injuries reported

A fire at the waste disposal site of H.A. Ihavandhoo has spread causing damages.

Vice President of the Ihavandhoo Island Council, Abdul Mueed Ibrahim told Sun Media that the fire started at the disposal site around 6:30 p.m. and are working to extinguish the fire.

“The fire is very big. Fire caught with the collected metals. About 90 percent of the waste disposal site has caught fire.” Abdul Mueed said.

He said that about 300 square feet of the place has caught fire although no one has been injured.

“No one is injured. The trees and plants in the area are heavily affected. Police are also guessing it was set on fire.” He said.

The Vice President of the Council said that the MNDF Fire and Rescue team at Kulhudhuffushi is on the way to Ihavandhoo to assist in extinguishing the fire.
