Maldives Correctional Service has extended the leave of the former President Mohamed Nasheed currently in the UK for medical treatment.
Commissioner of Prisons, Mohamed Husham told Sun Media today that the Corrections extended the medical leave after the ex-President submitted the relevant documents as per the regulations.
He said that the former President sent the medical documents from the Hospital email address on Thursday.
Husham said that the lawyer of the former President made numerous requests to extend the medical but was denied due to failure to submit the medical documents.
While the medical leave of President Nasheed has been extended by 30 days, Corrections have previously ordered the former President to return to the country on 6 April. The order was sent because the documents were not submitted.
President Nasheed left to the UK from Colombo on 21 January 2016.
