Police say Maldivian arrested hired hitman to kill Rabarey

Maldives Police Service has said that the 28-year-old man they arrested from Maldives had been the one to hire a hitman to kill former gangster Hussein Razeen (Rabarey) – who was found murdered in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

MPS issued a press statement on Sunday, saying that they had been able to confirm that the hitman to kill Rabarey had been hired by a man in Maldives.

Police have not revealed any personal details regarding the individual, other than to confirm that it’s a 28-year-old Maldivian.

Police said that the hitman had sent pictures to confirm the kill immediately to the man’s phone.

The hitman had re-sent the pictures the next morning, and the man had transferred money to the hitman’s bank account.

The hitman – a Maldivian man known by the name “Bilal”, is already under arrest in Colombo, along with the Sri Lankan van driver who assisted Bilal.

Upon questioning, Bilal – who was an acquaintance of Rabarey – said that he had been hired by a Maldivian businessman who wanted to avenge his brother’s death; that the Maldivian businessman had hired Bilal after failing in his own attempt to kill Rabarey.

Rabarey was found murdered in an abandoned paddy field near Tumbovila Bridge in Piliyandala, on November 5, 2015.
