Muizzu: Bridge platforms will be established next week

Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said on Tuesday that work on establishing platforms for China-Maldives Friendship Bridge between Male’ and Hulhumale’ would begin next week.

Answering a question posed by Feydhoo MP Ibrahim Didi during People’s Majlis session, Muizzu said that pipes needed to establisht the platforms were already being constructed.

Nine out of the 20 pipes that are needed have already been constructed, said Muizzu.

“Ten pipes will be constructed today. And platforms will be established next week. Once the platforms are established, work will begin on constructing pipes for the main bridge and constructing foundation piles,” said Muizzu.

He said that work on the bridge was being carried out as per schedule. Noting that some of the work was being carried out ahead of schedule.

“Housing Ministry is keeping a close eye on construction of bridge. God willing, it is going very well,” said Muizzu.

Muizzu said that cost during bridge construction phase would be USD 191 million, and that the cost for bridge design consultancy would be USD 12 million.

He said that it was estimated to cost total USD 210 million.
