Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has sent a letter to Immigration to probe into rumors that convicted former People’s Majlis Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim went to UK.
Nazim – sentenced to 25 years in prison for graft – was allowed permission by MCS to travel to Singapore for medical treatment.
MCS media official who spoke to “Sun” on Monday said that they were not yet clear on whether Nazim travelled to UK. And had sent a letter to Immigration to look into the case.
“Nazim went to Singapore for medical treatment on a travel document. Now he can travel to another country with his passport, or through some other way. So we sent a letter to clarify how Nazim travelled to UK, if he indeed went there,” said the official.
Nazim has not yet confirmed whether he has travelled to UK or not, as rumors run abundant.
Nazim’s lawyer recently sent a letter to MCS saying that Nazim would not return back to Maldives until his treatment was complete.
She said that Nazim needed to undergo three operations. And still had one more to go.
The lawyer said that MCS ignoring the seriousness of Nazim’s medical conditioning and ordering that he return to the country midway through his treatment showed how inhumanely MCS was treating him.
Nazim also served as Deputy Speaker of People’s Majlis before his conviction.
