Minister Thoriq: WAMCO will begin waste management Malé later in the year

Environment Minister, Thoriq Ibrahim has said that the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) will be starting the waste management in Malé City collecting waste from residential homes.

Speaking at the inaugural of the WAMCO Waste Collection Survery and the “Saafu Rajje” (Clean Maldives) campaign today, Minister said that WAMCO would be collecting waste across the city by the end of the year.

Minister Thoriq said that Malé is a small city in dire need of a safe waste management solution.

“Housing Ministry has started some work to acquire a land from the South West of Malé City by dredging and get land for waste management.” Minister Thoriq said.

He said that once that the land is acquired, WAMCO would obtain land from there.

The Environment Minister said that budget has been set to begin waste management in the H.A, H.Dh. and Sh. Atolls in the future.
