Indian External Affairs Minister meets with Maldivian President

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, on Monday, paid a courtesy call on Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen, who is on a two-day state visit to India.

The meeting was held at Leela Palace in New Delhi at around 10:30 am, Indian time.

According to President’s Office, Yameen mentioned the Maldives Investment Forum that is scheduled to be held in Mumbai this year, and said that Maldivian government was always open to mutually beneficial investments.

He also spoke about the government’s commitment to working with India against terrorism, and strengthening cooperation to enhance maritime safety and security in the Indian Ocean.

Yameen and Swaraj also discussed establishing a Maldivian Educational and Cultural Centre in Thiruvananthapuram - which hosts a large community of Maldivians.

Yameen is also scheduled to meet with Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Yameen is accompanied on the trip by Foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon, Fisheries and Agriculture Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee and three People’s Majlis members – Kela MP Ali Arif, Holhudhoo MP Ali Mohamed and Guraidhoo MP Ibrahim Riza.
