President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI), created to investigate the change of government, will resume work sometime mid-June.
Speaking to reporters in Male’ after his visit to the UK, the President said that the two new members will join the CNI around 15 June, who will study the work of the commission thus far.
“All the members will be present by 15 June, and they will have the chance to study the work of the commission. After they do this, we hope that ideas come up on how to proceed,” the President said.
He also informed that the CNI’s President Ismail Shafeeu will be out of the country for a few days, and that the work of the CNI will resume at a faster pace once he returns.
The President had also met with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, and relayed information on the work and progress of the CNI.
The CNI, when it resumes work, will be made up of former members Ismail Shafeeu, Dr Ibrahim Yasir and Dr Ali Fawaz; and two new members who are former President Nasheed’s representative Gaha Ahmed Saeed, and a retired Judge from Singapore.
