Police investigate death of young Indian television actress

NEW DELHI (AP) — Police said Saturday they were investigating the death of a 24-year-old Indian television actress whose body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her Mumbai apartment.

Pratyusha Banerjee's body was found in the apartment on Friday and has been sent for an autopsy, said Mumbai police constable Sudhir Butere. He said the cause of death will not be known until the autopsy report is received.

Police were questioning Banerjee's boyfriend, as well as other friends and neighbors, Butere said.

Banerjee was best known for her role in India's longest-running TV show, the serial "Balika Vadhu," or "Child Bride," in which she played a grown-up former child bride. The show, which is still on the air, has had over 2,100 episodes.

Banerjee also appeared on "Bigg Boss," the Indian version of the reality show "Big Brother."
