MP for the South Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof has said that he has not touched any money from the Maldves Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MPRC)’s corruption of the MVR 1.22 billion to the state.
Talking to the press near the Parliament administrative office, MP Mahloof said that he has no connection to any corrupt money.
A number of MPs accused MP Mahloof of numerous thefts at the debate of the MMPRC corruption at the Parliament yesterday. The MP for the Hoarafushi constituency, Mohamed Ismail said yesterday that MP Mahloof “ate” 60 percent of the money missing from MMPRC.
Mahloof said that the only money he received from President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom since he was sworn into the Presidency was the USD 30,000 (MVR 462,600) for the Parliament campaign. He said that the details of that money are included in his financial report.
At the Parliament sitting yesterday, MP Mohamed Ismail said that MPs from the opposition MDP also took the corrupt money from the MMPRC and it was he who went to those members with the “money sack.”
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that they have started an investigation into it.
But MP Mahloof said today that the ACC does not have the courage to investigate the claims.
“I want to call out loudly to investigate the case. But no just what he (MP Ismail) said. We are also accusing at podiums and the Parliament. Investigate those too.” MP Mahloof said.
MP Mahloof said that the “money sack of corruption” did not come to him but he believes what MP Mohamed Ismail said. And he strongly supports the claims to name those MPs who took the money.
He said that such words are being spoken by the MPs in the Government coalition due to the pressure they are under.
The South Galolhu MP said that no matter what is being said about him by other individual MPs, he is not thinking about going after individual members and it is President Yameen that is deep behind the corruption and that is the “target.”
