Amal Clooney receives death threats, strengthens security

UK newspaper – Metro News has reported that international lawyer for former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed, Amal Clooney had received death threats.

Though details of the death threats were not revealed, Metro News reported that the death threats were linked to Amal representing Nasheed.

The newspaper reported that Amal was receiving continuous death threats, and that Amal’s husband – Hollywood star George Clooney had upgraded the couple’s security.

Metro News said that Amal was now being escorted by security, even if it is to a nearby restaurant.

George Clooney even attempted to install security cameras around their property, but failed to secure permission as it would violate the privacy of their neighbors.

George Clooney stressed that the threats received by Amal in her course of work were a very serious matter.

In her work representing Nasheed – who was sentenced to 13 years in prison for unlawful imprisonment of a judge, Amal has called the international community for sanctions against some top Maldivian government officials.
