The big shipment for bridge project arrives in Maldives

The largest import shipment to come to the Maldives has arrived for the Malé-Hulhulé Bridge Project.

The ship from China entered the Malé Harbor today at 9:45 a.m. The ship brought four barges, one tugboat and a floating barge.

State Minister at the Housing Ministry, Abdulla Mutthalib said today that the shipment arrived today is the machineries needed for the bridge project.

“This is, the biggest shipment of machineries for this project has come today. Among this four barges, inside the tugboat is more machineries and other related things.” Mutthalib said.

Mutthalib said that as soon as they are unloaded, they would join the construction of the Malé-Hulhulé Bridge.

He said that so far items worth of 17 cargo containers have been brought and on the way to be moved to the Raalhugandu area.

Regarding the work at the Usfasgandu area, State Minister Mutthalib said that current work in progress is building the accommodation and office building of the workers.

While the project has now been initiated, the 1.39 kilometer bridge is agreed to be completed in 30 months. And so the Housing Ministry says that the bridge would be fully completed in 2018.
