Ultra Sound scan services began at Hulhumale’ Hospital on Sunday.
The service was inaugurated in a ceremony held at the hospital by Health Minister Iruthisham Adam.
In her speech, Iruthisham said that Hulhumale’ Hospital had made great achievements during the past year, including widening the scope of laboratory tests done at the hospital, as well as setting up a system for tests that cannot be done at Hulhumale’ Hospital to be sent to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male’ City.
Iruthisham said that there were great many challenges to providing health services in Maldives as it was a small island nation.
“…And when citizens face uncertainty, people who work to provide health services - health workers, doctors, nurses and officials who manage health services also face numerous challenges..,” said Iruthisham.
She said that government was working to identify challenges faced in providing health services to small islands, and finding solutions to the challenges.
Speaking in the ceremony, Ahmed Shakir, who is in charge of running Hulhumale’ Hospital said that though US scan services had been started at the hospital, they did not yet have a permanent radiologist.
Shakir said that radiologist at IGMH would be working at Hulhumale’ Hospital every Wednesday until a radiologist was found for the hospital.
The first person to get a US scan done at Hulhumale’ was handed over her scan report with great ceremony by Health Minister Iruthisham.
