Man who went diving for dusky parrotfish near Kooddoo goes missing

One of the two men who went diving for dusky parrotfish (locally known as lan’daa) near G. A. Kooddoo early Sunday morning has gone missing.

Police revealed the identity of the man to be Abdulla Rasheed Ali, 32, from Bodudhunburuge in H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi. And said that he had been wearing black swimwear, green fins, and aluminum-colored oxygen tank when he went diving.

Police said that according to others with Abdulla Rasheed Ali when he went missing, he had been headed in the direction of G. A. Vilingili.

Missing persons report for Abdulla Rasheed Ali was filed with police at 7:15 am. And police and Maldives National Defense Force officers have been looking for him ever since.

Police involved in the search and rescue effort said that the ocean current was moving inwards, towards the heart of the atoll. And that ocean current in that specific area was moving towards Vilingili.

Police have asked that ships travelling in the area be on the lookout for Abdulla Rasheed Ali. And provide any relevant information to Coastguard or police.
