Lower court overruled: Muhuthaz arrested

High Court has overruled the Criminal Court and executed a court order to arrest the former Prosecutor General (PG) Muhuthaz Muhusin.

The former PG was first arrested on Sunday night for his suspected involvement in the attempt to arrest President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom with a false court order before he was released by the Criminal Court when he was taken to make a decision about his remand.

After the state appealed the former PG’s release, the High Court worked into midnight last night before passing a verdict to overrule the Criminal Court an detain the former PG Muhuthaz for 15 days.

Aside from the former PG, the High Court also added seven days to the remand of the Magistrate of the Maamigili Magistrate court, Judge Ahmed Nihan who was arrest in the same case.

The Judicial Service Commission suspended Judge Ahmed Nihan today.
