The Chinese government has donated MVR 5.7 million worth of medical equipment used in the “Bright Journey” Eye Campaign in Hulhumalé to the Maldivian health sector.
At a special ceremony held at the Hulhumalé Hospital, the equipment used in the eye campaign was handed over to the Maldivian government by the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Fukang. The equipment was accepted by the Minister of Health Iruthisham Adam.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Health Minister said that the equipment donated by the government would continue to be used in eye surgeries.
“…the latest, state of the art equipment in eye surgeries was donated to the Maldives as a service to the people of Maldives. This medical equipment would be maintained in our hospitals to be used whenever we want.” Minister Iruthisham said.
Health Minister Iruthisham Adam expressed gratitude on behalf of the Maldivian people to the Chinese Ambassador Wang Fukang.
A total of 100 people had cataract surgery in Hulhumalé at the “Bright Journey” Eye Campaign that began at 18 January. Hulhumalé Hospital said that 83 of the 100 surgeries were successful and the surgeries of the remaining 17 people would be done very soon.
