President: A kidney transplant center would be opened this year at IGMH

President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has said that a Super Specialty Kidney Center would be opened at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) within the year with kidney transplant service.

Speaking at the PPM-MDA “Hopeful 2016” event held at Alimas Carnival last night, President Abdulla Yamin said that qualified staff in the region would be working at the Super Specialist Kidney Center.

The President said that the best National Diagnostic Center in the region would open at IGMH before September and said that the best catheterization laboratory or Cath-lab in the region would also be established at IGMH within the year.

“The purpose of this is, the benefit of this would for those with heart diseases. This is something we know. But every heart pain, everyone going abroad is not easy. And time and whether mostly does not allow. But if we manage to establish a Cath-lab in the Maldives, the treatment not available, those that are not cared for would receive assistance, of that I have no doubt.” President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom.

In his speech, the President questioned if it was projects like this that attempts are being made on his life.

“Is it because I do things like this to the people that I have to be killed? I want to say that what we do is to bring happiness to Maldivians. What we do is to bring some sort of calm, peace from the troubles and predicaments of the people.” President Abdulla Yamin .
