Umar says Nasheed spit of the face of a prison employee

Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that imprisoned former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed spit on the face of a prison employee on Monday.

Umar tweeted that Nasheed spit on the face of a civilian working in the prison and asked that Nasheed respect the dignity of prison employees.

Exchanges have been going on back and forth between Umar and Nasheed over the issue of the former president travelling to UK for his surgery.

Umar said that Nasheed signed the agreement allowing him to travel abroad for medical treatment and then tore it up in presence of prison officials. And that he would not be allowed out of the country unless he signs another copy of the agreement, and a member of his family signs the agreement making him or her liable if Nasheed does not return back to the country.

Umar said that Nasheed would be taken straight to the airport as soon as the documents are signed.

Nasheed’s legal team said that Maldivian government had agreed with foreign officials to allow Nasheed to be sent out of the country for medical treatment with no strings attached.

Whereas Umar said that government had not made any deal with a foreign party regarding Nasheed, and that official paperwork needed to be signed before he was allowed out of the country.
