Maldives Correctional Service has said that the family of the former President Mohamed Nasheed is lying that the former President was requested to sign a legal document and that he could leave as soon as he signs it.
The Correctional Service said this after the family of the former President issued a press release refuting the statement by the Correctional Service about the delay in the former President’s medical visit was delayed with President Nasheed’s refusal to sign a relevant legal document was a lie.
“President Nasheed’s family would like to clarify that no member of the family has been approached by the MCS, or any other Government agency to sign a legal document, nor has such a request been made of them by President Nasheed.” The statement from the former President’s family said.
The Information Officer of the Maldives Correctional Service, Moosa Rameez told Sun Media tonight that the family of the former President is lying. And he said that the former President has to sign a legal document to leave the country as it is the regulation for any inmates to leave the country.
“Responsible people like that, giving information in such a way that is contrary to the truth is concerning.” Rameez said.
“Departure is, on the hands of President Nasheed. It is set so that when he signs the document, he can depart.”
Rameez said the legal document to leave the country is not for President Nasheed alone and is for all those who are in incarceration.
“A person that would clarify information while abroad, as in going with a person and a person here that would be giving news from abroad has to be here.” Rameez said.
He said that the responsibility of the person in the country signed as responsible is to communicate with the Home Ministry as to not lose track of the person.
