Maldivian government has condemned the hydrogen bomb test conducted by North Korea.
Maldivian Foreign Ministry released a statement on Friday saying that the nuclear test was a violation of relevant United Nation Security Council resolutions.
“The recent nuclear test by DPRK is a clear act of defiance and provocation to its regional neighbors. The Maldives considers DPRK's nuclear weapons ambition not only as a hindrance to regional stability but also as a serious threat to international peace and security as a whole,” read the statement.
Maldivian government called for an immediate stop such violations and comply fully with UN Security Council resolutions.
Foreign Ministry said that Maldives had always stood firm against proliferation of nuclear weapons and urged that all countries comply with Treaty of Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).
North Korea claimed it conducted a hydrogen bomb test on January 6, something which some governments have been expressed doubt about, pointing out that it may very well be government propaganda.
