President expresses sympathy after Indonesia bomb blasts

President Abdulla Yameen on Thursday sent a letter of sympathy to Indonesian President Joko Widodo in the wake of bomb blasts that rocked the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

President in his letter said that he had been shocked and saddened to hear about the attacks, and that government and people of Maldives strongly condemned the act of terrorism.

The Government and people of the Maldives join me in condemning these heinous acts of terror in the strongest terms and express our firm solidarity with Indonesia in all its efforts to maintain national peace and to eliminate terrorism,” read the letter.

He also said that Maldives stood firm in its commitment to supporting shared human values and would remain firm in working closely with Indonesia and other countries to achieve the mutual goal of eliminating terrorism.

He expressed sympathy to Indonesian government and people of Indonesia.

Bomb blasts and gunfire in Jakarta resulted in six deaths and rising number of casualties.
