Applications open for Commissioner of Sports

Applications have been opened for the Commissioner of Sports at the National Sports Commission to be formed as the parent association for all sporting club and association under the Sports Law ratified by the President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom last September.

An announcement from the Youth Ministry yesterday said that the applicants for the Commissioner of Sports must submit all the relevant documents by 2 p.m. on 31 January.

The Sports Law says that a Commissioner of Sports appointed by the President must take over within 90 days from the ratification of the law.

Responsibilities of the Commissioner of Sports include overseeing the registration of all the competitive sports clubs and associations and upholding their regulations.

The Commissioner of Sports has the power to take steps under the regulations made Law of Sports against all individuals, clubs and associations involved and all of the competitive sports that takes place in the country.

And if the position of the Commissioner of Sports is vacated for any reason after a person have been appointed, the position must be fill within 30 days by the President.

A National Sports Commission has to be formed when appointing a Commissioner of Sports.
