MP for the Kaashidhoo constituency and the Chairman of Yacht Tours, Abdulla Jabir has called to the Tourism Industry to standup against those who call to boycott the Maldivian tourism.
Speaking on Channel 13’s News Talk, MP Jabir said that calling to boycott tourism is not something the people would accept and no political party should work to destroy the country’s economy.
Jabir called to the Maldives Association of Tourism Industries (MATI) and Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) to voice as one and come out against those who call for the boycott.
“I call to MATI and MATATO that people of our industry has to unite and come out. To lobby against.” MP Jabir said.
He said that the Maldives would not function if it loses the tourism sector and if that happens, the country would fall back to the 50’s.
“That is not something we can believe.” Jabir said.
While a group of people are calling to boycott the Maldivian Tourism, Jabir said that there is no reason that tourists should not come to the Maldives and even if false information about the country is given to the foreign countries, it would not be believed.
He said that the target for the year should be three million tourists and the current government can achieve that goal because President Abdulla Yamin is a capable person.
“In very high speed, the government has planned to do things. A lot of it is being done right, I believe. Especially, the thinking of President Yamin is making the Maldives as a developed country like Singapore on a fast rate. For that, billion dollar projects has to come.” MP Abdulla Jabir said.
