The ATM Debit Card being issued by the State Bank of India (SBI) has been changed to be used in the Maldives and India alone.
A statement issued by SBI said that starting from Sunday, (9 January 2016,) the SBI Debit Card cannot be used outside of India and the Maldives.
Until now the SBI Debit Card could be used globally at any Master Card Establishment. But since it is works globally, SBI said that ATMs are being abused in countries with low security.
“It has been decided to restrict automatic acceptability of our ATM Cards across the globe (except Maldives and India).” SBI said.
SBI said that their customers can request at the bank to activate international use of the card starting from Sunday.
“The dully filled request form along with copy of the valid National ID Card/Work Permit can be submitted to the branch or scanned copies of the same may be send to the e-mail [email protected]. On receipt of the captioned documents, the ATM Card activation will be arranged in 48 working hours.” The SBI statement said.
