Hearing on Ibthihaal’s step-grandfather’s case cancelled due to chickenpox

The hearing against in the trial of Ismail Rauf, M. Dhiggaru, the step father of Aafiya Mohamed, the mother of the 3-year-old Mohamed Ibthihaal who was found dead in Vaavu Atoll Rakeedhoo with bruises, has been cancelled after Rauf came down with chickenpox.

Criminal Court scheduled a hearing in the trial against Rauf who has been charged with incest to 1 p.m. today. He was charged with incest for raping Ibthihaal prior to his death.

If convicted, he could serve 20 - 25 years in prison.

Talking to the press previosly, the Head of the Serious and Organized Department of the Police, Superintendent Abdulla Satheeh said that Rauf has previously served time for assaulting a step child.

He said that the investigation has revealed that Rauf has previously abused Aafiya as well.
