Education Ministry has said that 80 percent of books needed for students have been provided to schools so far as start of new academic year draws close.
Education Ministry permanent secretary Abdul Muhsin Mohamed spoke to “Sun” on Wednesday and said that work on supplying books to schools was being carried out, but being hindered by bad weather.
“We are supplying books to schools. Now there are weather issues when it comes to transportation. But we are facing these challenges and working on sending the books to schools. A huge extent of the work has been done at this point,” he said.
Muhsin said that books would be provided to all Maldivian schools before start of new academic year.
“We are attending to delays arising from weather and transportation issues. We are sometimes sending the books through local air transportation.”
Education Ministry has said that a huge change had been brought to the country’s education system including changing age to start education officially to pre-school age group, and a record reduction in number of expatriate teachers.
