It has been confirmed that former President Mohamed Nasheed has nominated a name to the Commission of Inquiry (CNI) just before the deadline was up for him to do so.
Neither the government nor MDP has disclosed who had been nominated by Nasheed.
Nasheed’s most recent nominee was former Home Minister Mohamed Shihab’s daughter, Manal Shihab, who was later withdrawn.
The government has not accepted the eleven people suggested so far by Nasheed. They have said that the person must not have filled a political post in the past two years, and should hold an undergraduate degree.
It had been agreed between MDP, the government and the Commonwealth that Nasheed should nominate a person to CNI before 31 May - failure to do which would transfer the opportunity to the government.
