High Court halts two Civil Court orders on Usfasgandu

High Court has issued a stay order on the two Civil Court orders on Usfasgandu, to postpone implementation of the two orders.

Two orders by High Court issued at 9:00 today says that the state had appealed the Civil Court order to halt dismantling Usfasgandu, and to return the items taken by the Police before 10:00 today.

The High Court has ordered to postpone the implementation of the Civil Court orders until a decision is made on the case appealed by the state.

Police media official Sub-Inspector of Police Hassan Haneef said that this order allows the Police to take over Usfasgandu without any restriction.

“Police are assessing how to deal with Usfasgandu now,” Haneef said.

Police attempted to dismantle Usfasgandu last Tuesday for suspicion of crimes having been conducted there. However MDP filed a case to Civil Court, which issued a temporary order to cease dismantling of the area. And last night Civil Court ordered the Police to return the items taken from Usfasgandu.

The Police said that even last night, a group threw stones at a Police vehicle while it was passing by Usfasgandu. When the Police tried to identify the group, they confronted the Police and tried to create unrest.
