Adeeb questioned about lease of 17 islands

Police have questioned former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb regarding corruption allegations in the lease of 17 additional islands for tourist resort development by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Adeeb’s lawyer Moosa Siraj told Sun Media the interrogation took place on Monday, and Adeeb responded by saying that he had in his capacity as tourism minister signed the agreements, after ensuring that the documents were lawful and complete.

Earlier, police submitted cases to the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office regarding corruption in the lease of 21 islands for tourist resort development. Charges have not yet been filed regarding these cases.

Adeeb and Abdulla Ziyath, former managing director of MMPRC, have been charged with corruption in the lease of a lagoon in Malé atoll for tourism purposes.
