Dr Hala Hameed appointed as Permanent Rep to UN in Geneva

Dr Hala Hameed has been appointed as the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN office in Geneva.

The letter of appointment was presented to Dr Hala Hameed by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom at a ceremony at the President’s Office on Tuesday, 22 December 2015.

Parliament unanimously approved her appointment last month, with 68 votes.

She served several years at the President’s Office prior to being appointed as Vice President of Police Integrity Commission, from which she resigned in 2013.

She was transferred from the post of Minister of State for Law and Gender to Additional Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in September 2015.

Her last post before the appointment as the Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva was Ambassador-at-Large at Ministry of Foreign Affairs at state minister level.
